Looks like Square Enix is giving all of the Final Fantasy fans a late Christmas present.
Final Fantasy IX, considered to be one of the best Final Fantasy games in the series, is headed to smartphones and PC sometime in 2016, at least in Japan, according to Square Enix from an article on Kotaku. Specifics on whether a western release of the game would also follow were not stated, but given that a large amount of games within the Final Fantasy series have already been released here, it should be a safe bet to assume the game will arrive on this side of the globe as well in the future.
Square Enix has promised "high definition graphics, newly added achievements, auto-save, high-speed mode, and several game boosting features" for the re-release, and it can definitely be seen in the trailer above. If anything, this should be some great news for players that have forgotten about, or missed out, on this excellent entry in the franchise.
